Today's Marketing Tip: Traffic Exchanges

Are you trying to generate traffic to your website but don't want to spend a ton of money doing it? One of the best ways to generate "free traffic" to your website is with the help of traffic exchanges. The concept of a traffic exchange is that you browse other peoples websites. In return, they browse yours.

The traffic exchange or traffic swap is a great way to generate traffic for free - especially if you can get others to help you browse in exchange for traffic credits. I personally use TrafficSwarm. Whenever I find a tool that helps me apply my search engine optimization strategies more quickly, or more efficiently, I love to talk about it. Today's marketing tip is all about article distribution. I have built more one-way links to my website using article marketing, than any other SEO technique. I used to submit to top article directories manually using Article Submitter Pro.

This type of software has reduced the amount of time it takes me to submit my original content to article directories significantly. In the last few days, a friend of showed me how to submit to article directories automatically. Most of you know from reading my posts that I don't recommend a tool or product unless I use it myself. This particular service distributes your articles for you for a reasonable price. If you want the benefits of article marketing but don't want to spend hours and hours distributing them, check out ArticleMarketer.

Google Analytics

One of the best ways to improve the overall revenue you generate from your website is through on-site optimization. The practice of on-site optimization is all about data. Who are your visitors? Where do they come from? When do they arrive to your site? and What path do they take? Understanding who your users are and how they navigate your site can be truly eye opening.

Analytic software used to cost tens of thousands of dollars. If companies wanted to understand their web browsers, they needed lots of resources and capital. Today, there are a number of free resources you can use to better understand your user base and their on-site behavior. Alexa and Quantcast are two of my favorite resources for determining website traffic and user profiles.

Recently I installed Google Analytics and have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of data and information it provides for purposes of optimization. Not only can you learn about the performance of your website, you can also discover which pages your browsers are accessing. More importantly, you can see from which pages they're leaving your site.

If you want to optimize your websites performance, begin by learning about your traffic and the performance of your website. Find out where you're losing browsers and make changes. The result can only be a higher performing website!

Getting Your Website Indexed in Less Than 24 Hours!

Today's Marketing Tip: Getting Indexed Quickly.

It seems like each year, I keep adding websites to my portfolio. On thing I always struggled with was getting my website indexed quickly by major search engines (like Google). I recently read a post by internet marketing tip master Michael Jensen of SoloSEO.com where he provides advice - and real world experience on getting a site indexed in less than 24 hours. Here are the steps he uses. You can apply these to any website and see results.

1. Create a website or micro-site. Five pages will do. Examples include a home page, About Us Page, Sitemap, etc.

2. Put the pages in a simple template with a good internal linking strategy. That is to say you should like to all of these pages from each page (ie. navigation).

3. Add a link from one of your other sites. Try to make sure that the site providing the link to the new site is contextually relevant.

4. Tag your new website on 2 or 3 social book marking sites.

5. Comment in a forum and post a link back to your site. Even if you can't use link text, place your URL in the post preceded by http://.

6. Put your URL in one directory and submit to Digg.

7. Install Google analytics and consider adding Google Adwords. Google favors websites that drive revenue to them.

8. Create a sitemap and ping Google. Mr. Jensen also mentioned that he put the sitemap in his Robots.txt file. Not exactly sure about this one, but certainly a valuable strategy. Be sure to log in to Google Webmaster Central and submit your sitemap. You'll need to place a file on your main directory for Google to verify that you own the site, but its pretty easy to do.

In as little as 24 hours, your site will be indexed by Google. It's that simple says Internet marketing tip master Michael Jensen. If you've tried this approach, be sure to comment on this post...

The Best Day To Send Email

The success of your email can change from day to day. The question that many marketers ask is, "Which day is best?" According to a new eROI study, the "best email day" appears to be Wednesday. "The average open rate on Wednesdays in the third quarter was 25.4%, and the average click rate was 3.9%," reports MarketingChart. As for the time of day - this study really got into the details - "there's a marked upward trend as time passes," so click rates peak around 4 PM, and open rates top out an hour later.

This timeframe holds unless your industry happens to follow some special schedule. Or until everyone learns of the eROI study, email recipients respond by changing their habits, and the whole thing gets turned on its head. In the short term, maybe it's just best to stop overthinking things and try to send emails midweek.

When browsers reach your website, the challenge is to keep them there and provide a good user experience. Broken links are a sure fire way to lose points with even your most loyal website users. Check all of your links with this great link checker tool called Link Sleuth. It's a little odd as the mascot for the site is an Alien, but it's one of the best free tools I've used for ensuring that all website links are working properly.
